SMU to launch AI supercomputer with NVIDIA and Mark III

November 16, 2021 – Mark III is excited and honored to announce that we’ll be working closely with SMU and NVIDIA on the launch of a new AI supercomputer based on NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD that will boost SMU’s supercomputer memory 10x and SMU’s capacity and capabilities around AI/Machine Learning by 25x, compared to current levels.

This foundation and investment are designed not only to propel SMU’s overall AI infrastructure and Research capabilities, but also as a landmark investment and foundation for Dallas/Fort Worth and North Texas, a Top 6 metropolitan area in the US (in terms of GDP), as it seeks to grow into a major hub for technology and AI investment.

According to SMU, this AI supercomputer will be used by faculty, researchers, students, and research partners and used for a wide variety of research disciplines, including computational biology, human performance, national defense, and digital humanities.

From a technology perspective, this AI supercomputer will feature NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, NVIDIA Quantum InfiniBand, and produce a theoretical 100 petaflops of computing power.

Mark III will be supporting SMU by working closely with NVIDIA to install the NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD (via our System Engineers/Architects – many featured in these pictures), in addition to partnering closely with a Mark III AI Education Series (via our Data Science team) and assisting where needed with MLOps pipeline integrations (via our DevOps/MLOps team).
