IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC) software defined storage has been improving infrastructure flexibility and data economics for more than 10 years. And Real-time Compression enhances efficiency even further by enabling the storage of up to five times as much active primary data in the same physical disk space.1 Finally, high-performance thin provisioning helps automate provisioning. When trying to determine the number of nodes in an SVC cluster, typically the most important factor to consider is performance, in terms of IOPS.  We would strongly recommend a Disk Magic study (no cost) be done for any SVC sizing to make sure the cluster is the appropriate size.
